As the website Specialneeds.com points out: ‘Teaching pupils with special needs to swim is not only a good idea, it’s essential. Swimming lessons help kids with special needs in a number of key areas, including greater muscle strength and physical endurance, increased flexibility, more self-control, and, in many instances, improved behavioural outcomes.’
We have our own warm water pool which is a fantastic resource where teaching includes lessons such and literacy and numeracy, communication, developing confidence, teaching water skills and participating in hydrotherapy/physiotherapy exercises in water.
Older pupils access Alfreton Leisure Centre for swimming lessons.
