The work on our new pool has begun!
The foundations are under way. The digger and dumper have started work and we are having deliveries of concrete for the foundations every day.
We have now closed the fund raising appeal and would like to thank all of those who have helped us raise near £58000 to provide sensory lighting, music, hand rails and other equipment for the new pool.
Below is a picture of our pupils inspecting the site and one of the current state of the work.
Our hydrotherapy/ swimming pool is a vital resource for all our pupils, many of whom have complex needs and learning difficulties.
The pool is not only used for swimming but for physio, sensory relaxation and aqua-robics. It’s an extension of our classroom, too, where we teach literacy and numeracy. All our pupils enjoy the water and are focused and engaged in learning in the pool environment.
Our pool is also used by the community: a parent and toddler group meet four times a week to enjoy our facilities. Leonard Cheshire Green Gables and other adult disability services also benefit from the use of our pool on a weekly basis, along with other schools like the Holbrook Autistic Centre, Derby.
So many people benefit from our facilities, but the entire building is very tired and shabby.
The existing pool was built in 1977 and is struggling to keep going so we are very excited about the building a our new pool.
